The 909 Stereo power amplifier incorporates Quad's patented current dumping technology and is one of the finest audio amplifiers available today. The current dumping technique eliminates many of the problems associated with transistor amplifiers giving a consistent and predictable performance without a need for the fine tuning adjustments on the production line. In current dumping amplifiers there is a very high quality low power output amplifier and a very high power output amplifier whose performance is not critical. This high power output amplifier controls the loudspeaker at all times and provides the current or 'muscle' to generate the sound. The low power output amplifier is arranged to generate a signal that compensates for errors between the input signal and the signal fed to the loudspeakers. The result is that the quality and accuracy of the output signal depends only upon the performance of the low power amplifier. In the 909 this low power output amplifier has been engineered to the highest standards. The problems of crossover distortion; quiescent current adjustment; thermal tracking and transistor matching all disappear. If such a thing as a perfect amplifier were to exist, then the 909 would be very close to that perfection.

State of the art performance combined with unique operating features sets the Quad 99 pre-amplifier apart from competing products. The combination of universal phono-socket connectors and Quad Link inputs gives the ability to connect an almost unlimited number of sources, each with optimal matching. All inputs, including those for moving-coil and moving-magnet cartridges, have adjustable sensitivity. This flexibility also extends to the wide range of precise tone control adjustments that can be made. In addition to the usual high-frequency filter, there are adjustments for the bass response, and the unique Quad 'Tilt' control which skews the entire frequency response to give a preferred tonal balance.
The 99 pre-amplifier is packed with technical innovation including noiseless solid state signal switching and digitally addressed analogue volume and balance controls. These track both left and right channels with a previously unattainable accuracy of better than 0.1dB.

Cambridge Audio breaks new ground with an entirely new class of amplifier in the shape of the 840A which marks the zenith of Cambridge Audio’s critically acclaimed Azur line-up. Embracing Cambridge Audio’s patent pending proprietary Class XD™ technology, the 840A brings together the quality of Class A amplification, the power economy of Class B designs, and most amazingly of all, avoids many of the distortion pitfalls inherent in Class AB designs. Completely separate pre-amp and power amp toroidal transformers and circuits make the 840A effectively a pre and power amplifier combination in one chassis Another enormous benefit is its ability to integrate seamlessly with a home cinema system. Fixed level inputs allow the 840A to provide the front channel amplification to systems which use an AV receiver. The receiver continues to provide centre and rear amplification. In addition to this innovative technology, the 840A uses an extremely sophisticated resistor ladder and relay attenuator for volume control and the same high quality relay switches for input selection. This enables high isolation between inputs, very accurate channel balance and leaves the amplifier completely free from the distortion associated with conventional semiconductor switching and volume control. As with all Azur products, the foundation of the Azur 840A's strength is a bespoke chassis. This comprises an incredibly thick 7mm front panel and extruded side panels, both fashioned from aluminium, which combine with a 2mm formed steel base plate and specially designed vibration absorbing feet. The result is an ultra rigid, low resonance, acoustically dampened platform for the electronics to sit in.
Great attention has been paid to ensure that all functions can be operated from the stunning aluminium-faced Azur Navigator remote. As well as offering full control over all the 840A's features and functions, this neat handset also enables track skip plus play and pause of iPods™ connected to Apple's iPod Universal Dock

The Azur 640A is back with a raft of upgrades. It now thumps out a whopping 75 watts thanks to a higher specification toroidal transformer. Moreover, a chunkier heat sink allows the amplifier to dissipate more energy and run cooler than before, meaning the amplifier can operate harder, for longer. The Azur 640A V2's sensitive preamp circuitry has also been significantly redesigned, generating lower noise and THD (total harmonic distortion), while delivering greater levels of transparency. At the heart of these enhancements is a completely new input PCB with buffering on every input which has radically reduced crosstalk and provides even better imaging characteristics. The Azur 640A also sees improvements to the power amplifier circuitry layout, with many small but significant refinements further reducing distortion and improving the drive capability with real world speakers. The 640A is now Incognito Ready! To allow seamless integration with multi-room entertainment systems, the Azur 640A now has Control Bus input and output as well as an IR emitter input. Outputs for Cambridge Audio's new Incognito multi-room system are even included. This enables self-amplified Incognito multi-room keypads to be connected to the 640A allowing the hi-fi system to be shared with up to two other rooms. Each gains local control. All this technology is housed on Cambridge Audio’s hugely respected low resonance, acoustically damped chassis, which takes in a thick aluminium front panel. Here you’ll find changes to the volume, tone and balance controls, with new pots offering better feel, as well as greater accuracy and improved channel matching at low volumes. There’s also a heavier steel skin on the main volume knob adding greater and a better feel. Completing the upgrades is a highly ergonomic navigator style Azur remote handset.
